The Mystery of the unknown love songs

February with Valentine's Day is the love month, and so we start our new Mystery-series with a mystery from the universe of love songs. Do you recognize any of these musical declarations of love?

An album full of love, but do you recognize any of our mystery songs?

A record full of love, but do you recognize any of our mystery songs?

Arne Dørumsgaard had a passion for bringing lost songs back to the present, be it songs written by composers of the 14- and 1500s, or folk songs handed down from generation to generation. Dørumsgaard arranged several such songs for voice and piano, including the collection Canzone Scordate, which translates to "Forgotten Songs". Canzone Scordate is a song collection that consists of 22 volumes with Dørumsgaards arrangements of songs from a bygone era.

The mystery

Among the songs Dørumsgaard arranged, there were several love songs that were recorded and published, including on the records Love songs from many lands and Chants d'Amour du Monde.

In our collections, we have several copies of these recordings, on LPs and magnetic tapes. Now an unlabeled LP has turned up, with a single white sticker with the number 5 on it. Beyond that, there is no information about the recordings on the record. By listening through the tracks it has been possible to establish that all but 4 of them are the same as those found on the record Love songs from many lands. One of the unknown tracks are Arne Dørumsgaard singing the Norwegian folk song Jeg lagde meg så silde.

The last three songs are also of Dørumsgaard singing, but what songs he sings is more difficult to say. It sounds like Eastern European folk songs, but beyond that we are drawing a blank. Do you know which songs he's singing, or what language it is sung in, please leave a comment below, or send an email with the information and help us solve the mystery.

Mystery Song No. 2

The song is titled Širvonja. Some believe its origin to be either Serbian or Croatian. It is likely from the Bosnian town of Doboj. A children's song based on a dance tune.
