Text
The Danish soprano Engel Lund (1900 - 1996) was born in Iceland and later worked there as Professor at the music academy in Reykjavík. Her great interest and passion was in collecting and performing traditional music from a variety of countries (she was a prodigeous linguist), often - as in today's recording - together with the Austrian composer and pianist Ferdinand Rauter. Today's Noël Provencal is found in the second of the two volumes of 49 folk songs collected by Lund and Rauter and published by Oxford University Press in 1936 and 1947 respectively.
