Here is this year's fourth (and final) interpretation of "Silent Night" - this time in Norwegian as "Glade Jul".
Today we hear Arne Hendriksen ("the singing potter") together with Robert Levin's Orchestra - a combination you may remember from the 8th December.
Robert Levin (1912-1996) was in his time chief recording manager and orchestra leader for His Master's Voice in Norway, but his life was both distinguished, dramatic and challenging. As a pianist he performed in public from as early as age 13 and by the end of his working life he was Professor at the Norwegian National Academy of Music, of which he was also the first Principal. But during the Nazi occupation of Norway during the War, he had to flee to neighbouring Sweden and he lost many members of his close family in Auschwitz.
Arne Hendriksen was both a prize-winning ceramic artist and an opera singer who was active especially in Oslo, Bergen and Stockholm - but who was also well known in Europe and the USA.
